News Details - Tompkins County Tourism Program to Hold Grant Workshop
Organizations or individuals interested in learning more about funding opportunities available through the Tompkins County Tourism Program are invited to attend a grant workshop on Tuesday, January 24th. The workshop will take place from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. at the Tompkins County Visitors Center at 904 East Shore Drive in the Borg Warner Conference Room on the second floor.
Grant administrators for tourism grant programs will answer questions and discuss eligibility, award use, and grant application requirements and procedures. Those interested in applying in the spring 2012 grant cycle are especially encouraged to attend.
The following Tompkins County Tourism grant programs will have new funds available in the spring 2012 grant round. Applications will be due by 4pm, February 29th, 2012 – Leap Day.
Community Celebrations – This grant program is designed to provide assistance to events, programs, or series of events endorsed by a municipality that are free and open to all, and are planned by community members as a benefit to the community. Maximum award: $2,000.
Tourism Marketing and Advertising – These grants are designed to provide a dollar for dollar match for marketing and advertising expenses for campaigns that target potential tourists whose visit is likely to result in an overnight stay. Maximum award: $5,000.
Tourism Project Grants - This category supports tourism generating single projects that have been in active operation for at least 3 years at the date of application. Proposed projects must demonstrate strong likelihood of generating significant visitor attendance and participation and overnight stays in County hotels, motels and B&Bs. Maximum award: $25,000.
New Tourism Initiatives - For events or projects that have occurred less than 3 years in a row and that flow from and are consistent with the County’s Strategic Tourism Plan. Maximum award: $25,000.
Information will also be provided about the Tourism Capital Grant program and the Arts and Culture Organizational Development program. Details and copies of current grant applications will be available on the Tompkins County website by 1/20: www.Tompkins-Co.org. These grants are awarded by the Tompkins County Legislature and are funded entirely by hotel room occupancy tax dollars.
